John F. Haury Ph.D., CQE, CQM (ASQ certifications)
John Haury graduated from the University of California, San Diego with high honors and then earned a research-based Ph.D. from Harvard University (degrees in biology). John joined H.J.Heinz Foods as a research scientist where he developed a low-calorie French fry for Ore-Ida Foods (a subsidiary of Heinz). Moving his career to fill a need in the food industry, he earned American Society for Quality certifications as a Quality Engineer (CQE -emphasizing statistics) and Quality Manager (CQM) and was promoted to Total Quality Management Statistician at Ore-Ida Foods. As a company statistician and quality improvement consultant, John applied and taught Six Sigma methods. He was the company expert on statistics for continuous improvement of measurement systems, production processes and experimentation. For ten years, John worked for Amgen. In that time, Dr. Haury was an associate director of Six Sigma and quality engineering. He introduced a series of 8 stats classes (no-numbers starters to sophisticated design/analysis of experiments). He was instrumental in analytical labs results improvements. He wrote the internal standard for sampling, allowing reduced sampling costs and resources.
John Haury is now a full time consultant and owner of Applied-Stats.com. His consulting practice specializes in sampling for lot acceptance and for validation / verification using confidence statements. His expertise includes sampling for improving measurement systems, sampling for process control (SPC) and data analysis for capability improvement (error reduction). Additionally, John is an expert in design and analysis of experiments, the single most effective and efficient method for breakthrough improvements in quality, cost reduction and through-put (capacity). He is a team player and mentor. He is an excellent project manager.
Team goals achieved with proper motivational psychology, the right qualitative and quantitative (e.g. stats) tools, deep awareness and care for unintended consequences as well as risk analysis / management.
